In business, there used to be a saying, "If the only tool you have is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail." The meaning is pretty clear, if you only have one way to solve a problem, then every problem looks the same. That, I'm afraid, is the current nature of the American gun culture. We are wedded to the quick solution, the "one answer suits all" solution. We want to quickly categorize the problem, apply the standard solution, and move on. In the case of everyday human conflict, we seem to have chosen the gun as our solution.
